Horror Campaign Bios
Group of Heroes
Aaron: A Chaotic Good Human that served as a Jewish Cleric. While he was loyal to Moses and his group in the past, he did not care to uphold the Commandments as rigidly as his companions, leading to his exile. Older than the other members of the small group he traveled with, he was hired by the Church of Heironeous to accompany Gawain and check out Ikidir. While friendly with everyone in the group (excluding Plagus at some points), he has a special affection for Gawain, calling him ‘kid’ and advising him with his greater wisdom. When their adventure ended, he told Gawain he would travel for a while with him and Arin. His magic focuses mainly on healing, while he uses a warhammer to attack when necessary. Past times include smoking and cursing violently when angered.
Arin Justica: A Lawful Good Aasimar that was born a more traditional way, with a Celestial being a long-lost ancestor while her parents were two humans. Both her parents, being Clerics of Hextor, did not want an Aasimar daughter and abandoned her. She was found by a Heironous Elf Cleric and raised under his care. When she grew old enough for her first mission, she wound up taking one that resulted in her killing her parents. Disgusted at what she had done, she put an iron clamp over her heart and left the church, feeling unworthy of being around them. She went to get another mission after that, which is when Lucian had her come to assist the group. Though not there for long, she helped to kill the Red Dragon and landed the final blow on Reth. Gawain ended up kissing her at the end, much to her embarrassment, and she agreed to travel with Aaron and him. Arin used a longsword and had a shield, focusing on defense more than Gawain.
Gawain Honorus: A Lawful Good Aasimar that became a Paladin of Heironeous a month before coming to Ikidir. Due to both his parents dying from an attack caused by Undead, he was raised by his grandfather, Lucian, who is a Celestial. The fact that his parents were murdered by a Hextor Necromancer (Reth), along with Lucian’s loyalty to Heironeous, influenced Gawain to choosing him as a deity to serve. His main goal was to become a mighty warrior to assist Lucian. After becoming a Paladin, he left to prove himself, despite missing Lucian deeply. He was chosen to accompany Aaron to check on Ikidir. Aaron acted like a mentor, if not a father figure, which is why Gawain talked to him the most out of the group. Gawain is highly paranoid, using Detect Evil on anything, including tables. He cannot stand beings of evil, although experiences in Ikidir have left him confused on this biased view. In addition, Gawain is very polite, calling everyone ‘Sir’ or ‘Miss’ and referring to Lucian as ‘My Lord’. Due to having dreams of a Red Dragon burning away the town and all of his friends, he went to Lord Ikom to become a Knight of Bahamut. Shortly after, he got a Drakkensteed that he named Periwinkle at Marlene’s suggestion. When Lucian brought Arin to assist, he got along well with her, and even wound up kissing her at the end. It was decided that he would continue traveling and training with Aaron and Arin. Despite being an utter klutz, Gawain wields a greatsword that he can use fairly well.
Lucifer Eos: A Neutral Good Human who calls himself, “Lucifer Eos, Human Cleric and Radiant Servant of Pelor, Hand of the Light, Champion of the Shining One, Disciple of the Sun, Bringer of Light into the Dark, Interminable Font of Life, and Destroyer of Foul Unlife.” He is a Cleric serving Pelor as a member of the Radiant Servants of Pelor, as his title suggests. Unlike Aaron (who calls him ‘Lucy’ at times), he concentrates on damage-dealing magic, one of his favorites being a spell that surrounds him with light that he can shoot as rays. His skills as a healer are good though, for he manages to remove the Necrotic Cyst Delilah carried with assistance from Aaron and Gawain. He despises Undead and other beings against Pelor, and when in appropriate situations tends to chant Latin phrases. He left the town temporarily to try and get help, but was forced to return after an encounter with a severe amount of Wights. The other occasion he left was when Aaron, Gawain, and Marlene went into the sewers, remaining behind to fight off Ghasts while they went on. When forced into physical combat, he uses a heavy mace.
Marlene Katastrophen: A Chaotic Neutral Human with a crazy side. Apparently something happened in her past that resulted in her slaughtering a man that tried to manipulate her and his subordinates. She claimed that she would have killed her parents as well if it had been necessary. Whether this be the cause of her actions or not, she drinks quite a lot and resorts to violence quickly. Despite her insanity in battle, she has been shown to care for friends. This is especially true for Riawin, who she was very close to. Once Riawin perished, Marlene let herself give into her anger, making her even more dangerous than before. She died fighting Reth, but was resurrected by Wyatt and got together with Riawin in the end. Her weapon of choice is a kurisagama, although she has many other abilities to call on, such as essentia.
Michael: This mute Goliath was Lucifer’s cohort. He showed up briefly with Lucifer, though that was all.
Plagus: A Chaotic Good Aasimar that was a Sorcerer, he was more interested in vanity than strength. This, combined with his continuously stupid actions, caused many group members to dislike him (which Aaron displayed by calling him ‘drama queen’). Such actions include trying to stand and fight the Hulking Corpse and attacking a Ghoul Glyph. One of his only intelligent actions, most would say, was giving Cedric a gold piece, which led to gaining a powerful ally. He perished to a Mummified Ogre, and returned in ghost form to act fairly evil. Aaron turned him, but he returned to possess Delilah before being vanquished for good. His familiar was a toad named Darth Sideous, and he was last seen with Aaron.
Riawin: A Chaotic Neutral Human who was a Wizard. She traveled with Marlene and was a loyal companion to her. Tending to use fire magic, she was quite frail but good back-up against Undead. At Rhance’s orders, Reth kidnapped her while asleep, and then she was raped by a Ghast and tortured her to the point of death on a rack. She was reanimated as a corpse, but Marlene made her stay dead out of love for her friend. Taken by the Reaper afterwards, her final words helped ease Marlene’s guilt-filled heart. Wyatt resurrected her as well, and she got together with Marlene in the end. Riawin also had a Raven familiar, but it was eaten by a Ghast.
Main Villains
Celine Nocturne: A Chaotic Evil Dirgesinger Half-Elf cohort of Sylvia who joined Rhance’s group when Sylvia did. She did not care for Rhance as much, but served him loyally anyway. When working as a sentry for the cemetery, she was preyed on by a female Vampire, to the point of becoming one herself. Her corpse was taken by the Reaper, but returned shortly to serve her new mistress. Aaron, Gawain, and Marlene fought her in the sewers. With Aaron and Gawain holding her off with holy symbols while Marlene attacked, she was soon forced to retreat to her coffin, where they slew her for good. She preferred to play a lyre.
Count Rosier: A Lawful Evil Cancer Mage, who is Human and a nobleman, who was well-liked for his kind and polite attitude. This was a deception for his true motives though, which mainly involved assisting Rhance. He had joined Rhance shortly after Rhance began traveling, and helped him in Nerull’s name mainly by making Unholy arrows. By selling these to unsuspecting customers, they would become Wights by grasping too many. That was one reason Ikidir perished so swiftly. A batch was sent to the Church of Heironeous as well; Lucian was luckily able to warn them in time. Rosier also owned a black onyx mine in Cluré that helps in producing gems for raising Undead. He has apparently had dealings with Legares before. In the end, Lucian subdued him and planned on having him redeem himself to become Good.
Hivemind: A Chaotic Evil Taint Elemental that inhabited Ikidir shortly after Rhance made it an Undead haven. While not under Rhance’s command, they were able to negotiate. The Hivemind is responsible for most of the Undeads’ actions in the town. It was able to use illusions and take advantage of Taint to throw off the group. Others who entered the town were targeted by it; for instance, Erik was tempted to return to his Assassin ways. With a macabre sense of humor, the Hivemind constantly plagued all who were in Ikidir that were not Evil. It was supposedly made up of wasps, seeing as they had been sighted frequently. The Hivemind perished to Reth, who replaced it.
Legares: At first glance, apparently a Half-Elf Cleric that served at the Church of Heironeous. But looks can be deceiving, for his true form was that of the Cardinal Vice Envy, and he was a massive Leviathan. Lawful Evil by nature, he operated behind the scenes, using others to carry out his plans, and his careful words played a large role in the upcoming Holy War. He had much interest in Rhance Cromenet and contacted Rosier at least once, although probably more than that. Besides that, he desired to meet with Vampires in the sewers, and was responsible for assisting Gabriel, who was thought to be dead. His true motives were to obtain the body of a Maverick. A leviathan tattoo was on his arm which hinted to what he was. His human form was slain by Galuf and Maria, but he escaped before they could kill his true form. He met his end to Maria, Sabato, and Wyatt, though not before he banished Gabriel for his betrayal. His powers included shape-shifting, trapping opponents in water prisons, and using a trident he called Cyclone to raise the water levels in a room. This was particularly deadly when he shot electricity into the water.
Reaper: A Chaotic Evil Undead that came from Limbo. He made it his duty to snatch the corpses and souls of those who perished in Ikidir. The only exception was Celine, for she was soon released to serve as a Vampire. The Reaper took vile pleasure in his work and never failed to try to dishearten his victims. He also had much dislike for the group, especially Gawain, who he kept threatening to send to Mount Celestia. These threats turned out to be made without support, for in the end, he was cleaved apart in a single blow by Lucian.
Reth: A Lawful Evil Vermin Lord and quite old in appearance, this Human joined Rhance at around the same time Celine and Sylvia did. He seemed to be most devoted to carrying out Rhance’s orders, though he made it clear that he wanted to take down the other Hivemind. According to him, there can only be one at a time, and he planned on filling that spot. He used spiders to assist in many tasks, from spying to fighting. His strategies were deadly ones. One included sending Undead that self-destructed. The group of heroes was nearly killed by this. While he did it under Rhance’s orders, Reth was nevertheless the one to capture Riawin, which led to her death. Shortly after fighting the Red Dragon, Reth revealed himself to be a Cleric of Hextor who had been spying on the Clerics of Nerull, and said that he had been the one who killed Gawain’s parents. He was able to kill Ikidir’s Hivemind with Barlo’s help and gained the Hivemind’s powers himself, using them to slay Marlene. He used a bug shield and had a Giant Praying Mantis familiar. Reth’s powers could only be nullified by spells of light, and thus was only defeated when Lucifer helped the party. Otherwise, he was brought down by Aaron, Arin, and Gawain, with Arin dealing the final blow. Wyatt resurrected him and killed him again for fun afterwards.
Rhance Cromenet: An Aasimar that was born with a Tomb-Tainted Soul. Hurt by healing magic and healed by harming magic, he was exiled by other holy beings, who thought of him as a devil child. After wandering for many years, he was captured by Clerics of Nerull, who made him one of their own. Despite nearly being driven insane by being buried for three days straight in the joining ritual, he endured, and swiftly rose in the ranks. The High Priest, out of fear for his position, banished him to the Abyss, where he met Dagon at the Shadowsea. Branded and truly being driven mad, he returned and managed to slay the High Priest with allies such as Celine, Reth, and Sylvia, taking his rank. Not caring for it, he traveled, meeting Rosier and recruiting him to Nerull’s ranks. Calling himself The Necromancer, an anagram for his true name, the Neutral Evil Aasimar went around making an army of Undead, with the help of Rosier and a few devoted followers. He also made a pact with Red Dragons. Ikidir was his next target for a harvest in Nerull’s name. He planned on using the Gate within it to travel to the Negative Energy Plane’s heart, but his evil schemes were put to an end by Aaron, Gawain, and Marlene. His weapon was a scythe, and he had many powerful spells in his arsenal.
Sylvia Lament: A Neutral Evil Dirgesinger and a Human who was devoted to Rhance, she joined his small group shortly after he gained power. It could be said that she loved him; however, this was unable to develop, for Rhance did not return her feelings if he was even aware they existed. Nevertheless, she continued to serve her master faithfully, making many Undead for him. She accompanied him in his final fight, assisting by causing their enemies to become frightened and confused by various song effects. Once Rhance was killed, she stood little chance. Although she pleaded to be spared when nearly dead, Marlene did not hesitate to slaughter her. Her instrument of choice was a violin.
Minor Villains
Barlo Browns: Once a Human innkeeper, he was turned into a Neutral Evil Vampire. Leaving a document covering three days in his inn that made little sense, he followed Rhance’s reign. When the adventure ended, he was nowhere to be found. Originally planned to be a minor character, he was raised in importance due to the Dungeon Master’s desire to infuriate this bio’s writer, who despises Barlo Browns to the core of her soul.
Boneclaw: One of Rhance’s strongest Undead minions, this Chaotic Evil being attacked Aaron, Gawain, and Marlene in the sewers, shortly before their encounter with Celine. Although it inflicted many injuries with its extractable claws, it was overpowered by the trio. By withdrawing from a prone position, it managed to make it to the sewer water, where it was carried away and thus spared from permanent death.
Deathlock: Previously the husband of Mary Massey, this Neutral Evil Undead attacked the group in the Blue Chateau by emerging from Room 217. While other Deathlocks attacked the group later, it was unique simply for being related to a named character and for being one of the first Undead to be encountered. It was defeated fairly easily, although Lucifer was paralyzed by its Ghoul Glyph.
Dybbuk: A Chaotic Evil Outsider that classifies as a Loumara. Taking control of Alexander’s body for its own uses, it was foiled when Alexander was permanently killed by the group, his head severed by Gawain. Calling them murderers, it fled, and has not been seen since despite its threat to return.
Hulking Corpse: A Chaotic Evil Undead terror that stands roughly eleven feet tall. The group of heroes was pursued by this menace several times, most notably in the town hall. Constantly uttering the phrase “STARS…”, it flung a desk at the group when they got out of range, which was only narrowly avoided. Other than that, the only harm it managed to inflict was a near-fatal wound on Plagus when he foolishly tried to stand his ground. After this incident, the group did their best to avoid it. Reth had it assist in his exploding Undead strategy, but other than that, it merely patrolled the town square.
Red Dragon: This Chaotic Evil Red Dragon tried to burn down the entire town of Ikidir. Though his fire, claws, and flying abilities made it difficult, Aaron, Arin, Gawain, and Marlene put an end to his attempt.
Spectral Lyrist: A Chaotic Evil Undead who ambushed the group in the town hall. Despite her powerful music, she was quickly subdued. Knowing she could not win, she sank into the floor and has not returned since. She used a lyre for her enchanting music.
Sara Browns: A young girl who was a Ghost, the older daughter of Barlo Browns, and the sister of Samantha, who she was vicious to. She was Chaotic Evil and constantly harassed the group, especially Marlene, who she continuously threatened to rape. Lucifer exorcised the Blue Chateau, revealing her, and the Reaper cleaved her in two to send her to the Abyss.
Major Non-Playable Characters
Amroth Calaelen: A young Chaotic Good Elf that was the son of the Captain of the Guard. He was able to survive the slaughter of Ikidir by hiding in a room in the town hall, where he ate rats and drank out of a fountain. This gave him a disease though, which meant he was feverish by the time the group found him. Rhance threatened the group by saying he would kill Delilah if they did not hand over Amroth, and in the end Amroth surrendered himself. Rhance had done this to ensure the group would come after him in the sewers by the time two days had passed. In the fight against Rhance, Amroth was in danger of being killed by a pendulum blade, but Gawain was able to summon Cedric, who saved him. Lucian took Amroth to get him help, and by the time the adventure ended, the Cyst Rhance had given him had been removed and he had recovered.
Cedric: A Lawful Good Human child who was killed by Rhance when Ikidir perished. He returned as a Ghost with a task to complete. Before dying, he had wanted to get medicine for his mother; being killed prevented him from doing so. When encountering the group, Plagus gave him a gold piece, which caused Cedric to be a bit more trusting to them. He explained his situation, and the group agreed to assist. After paying for the medicine and nearly being attacked by a Ghost of the medicine man, they gave the medicine to Cedric’s mother. It turned out she was already dead as well, but the act was what counted. The Reaper tried to threaten them with separation in the afterlife, which was interfered with by the group. In gratitude for their help, Cedric gave the group a flute to call him if they needed help, and then went to Mount Celestia. Gawain played it when against Rhance, bringing out a Celestial Cedric to assist them. After freeing Amroth and missing several times with his greatsword, he was actually the one to land the killing blow on Rhance. Sylvia made him flee from confusion shortly after, and he returned later to give his best wishes before vanishing.
Delilah Dethur: A young Chaotic Neutral Half-Elf that was captured by Rhance when he found her wandering in the cemetery. He threatened to kill her if the group did not hand over Amroth, and unable to think of another way to save her, they agreed. It turned out she had a Necrotic Cyst on her neck, courtesy of Rhance, but Lucifer managed to remove it with the help of Aaron and Gawain. She was possessed by Ghost Plagus, but he was banished swiftly. The group decided she would be safest if left at Rin’s shop, and she remained there after pleading for them to save Amroth.
Lucian Honorus: A Lawful Good Celestial that is Gawain’s grandfather. His daughter, a Half-Celestial, died due to an Undead attack. Her last words were a desperate plea for him to take care of Gawain. Lucian did so, raising Gawain to the best of his ability. Once Gawain left for Ikidir, Lucian received orders from the Church of Heironeous to follow, keeping an eye on the group while searching for the Necromancer. If caught and killed, he was to bring Rhance’s corpse to Legares’ subordinates. While in the town, Lucian was frequently attacked by the Hivemind, but was able to fend it off. He met with the group shortly after Rhance’s death, killing the Reaper in the process with his longsword. Despite his relief at being reunited with Gawain, the news he swapped with the group was grim, thus he is ready to help in any way possible.
Rin: A Lawful Evil Half-Fiend, being Half-Human and Half-Devil, and a Rogue. Being an Extraplanar Outsider, he came from Baator and worships Hextor, although he claims to originate from Mechanus and revere Saint Cuthbert. Rin runs a multi-planar shop which operates under contracts. When signing them, the group was agreeing to stay under a total one hundred thousand gold piece limit. Should anyone break this contract, Half-Fiend Assassins would hunt the violator down. Rin has many contacts, including casters of spells that he sells and the previously-mentioned Assassins. Even though he is evil, he has much loyalty for his customers, even letting the group use his store for shelter against Reth because of their dealings with him. He also showed genuine sorrow at Riawin’s passing, although that was mainly due to the loss of a customer rather than her as a person. At the request of the group, he let Delilah stay in his store. It seems he has had dealings with Sicily in the past, but these have never been looked into (and probably for good reasons).
Minor Non-Playable Characters
Alexander: The barkeeper of the Black Cat pub. Although dead, he thought he was still alive due to the Dybbuk in his body. The group ended his suffering by extracting the Dybbuk and having Gawain behead his corpse.
Alice Horan: A person staying in Room 132 of the Blue Chateau, nobody knows what happened to her. The door leading to her room collapsed upon being touched, and the room inside seemed clean and orderly. A shelled-out black onyx gem was found, which Lucifer smashed.
Baldur Flinkwittle: A Dwarf staying in Room 150 of the Blue Chateau, the group found his corpse on the bed with his heart and eyes torn out.
Barlo’s Lover: A female Vampire Monk, she did little to affect the story. Her only in-game appearance was to rape and kill Celine. She briefly appeared once with Barlo and Celine and was never seen again after.
Bethla Gerthil: A woman staying in Room 219 of the Blue Chateau who committed suicide with her family heirloom dagger in a desperate attempt to avoid becoming an Undead. The group found her confession letter in her room, where she spoke of the seeing an odd creature, hearing odd noises from the sewers, and that she hoped her father would forgive her.
Camthalion Calaelen: The father of Amroth and the former Captain of the Guard. He taught the style of Elven swordsmanship to others. His wife died five years ago from a Red Dragon attack. He raised Amroth well, but died when the Necromancer attacked town. His body was never found; it is likely he became an Undead.
Cedric’s Mother: When the medicine was brought to her, she was already dead. However, being a Ghost, she was still touched by her son’s act of love. Although she was sent to Arcadia, she promised Cedric that she would travel to Mount Celestia to find him.
Claude: A Lawful Good Human that is a Paladin of Helm, he leads the Order of Helm. Although the group never met him, they noticed that he had Room 301 reserved in the Blue Chateau.
Delores Victoria: A person staying in Room 133 of the Blue Chateau, her room was unharmed. A letter was found, where she was telling a Paladin she loved that she wished to go to Cluré to mine black onyx gems as a job.
Eleanor Rigby: A person staying in Room 238 of the Blue Chateau, her room was never entered due to the threat of poison.
Greenbeard Stoutaxe: A Dwarf that was apparently of nobility, for he had Room 303 reserved in the Blue Chateau. The group found his animated corpse there, which Marlene quickly hacked apart.
Human Commoner Zombie: Unique for the fact that it was found in Room 200 of the Blue Chateau and that it could talk, it was originally thought to be Barlo Browns’ corpse. Now nobody knows who it might have been.
Laezerus Bluewhistle: A person staying in Room 220 of the Blue Chateau, his room was never entered due to the threat of poison.
Lurius Nightshade: A person staying in Room 236 of the Blue Chateau, his room was never entered due to the threat of poison.
Mary Massey: A woman staying in Room 237 of the Blue Chateau. Despite her room number, the group found what was presumed to be her corpse in Room 217 in a bathtub. A letter where she sounded like she was going insane was found in Room 217. Her dead husband was the Deathlock found in the hallway.
Mayor of Ikidir: The Human who was Mayor of Ikidir, the doomed town. Resident of Room 300 in the Blue Chateau, the group found his corpse nailed to a cross. In the town hall, they found a speech he had written, which was inconveniently cut off right before revealing the Necromancer’s name.
Medicine Man: The Ghost that the group encountered when going to get medicine for Cedric’s mother. The old man tried to attack Cedric, but was swiftly defeated and taken by the Reaper to Baator.
Raror Lethian: A person staying in Room 218 of the Blue Chateau, his room was never entered due to the threat of poison.
Rurik Baldur: A person staying in Room 235 of the Blue Chateau, his room was never entered due to the threat of poison.
Samantha Browns: A young girl who was a Ghost, the younger daughter of Barlo Browns, and the sister of Sara, who she feared. She was Neutral Evil, yet tried to help the group against her sickening sister. After revealing herself, she was taken to Hades by the Reaper.
Silth Kloria: A person staying in Room 100 of the Blue Chateau, nobody knows what happened to him. His room was found dusty, but untouched.
